Start Your Year Off Right: Make A New Year's Resolution You Can Keep!

Planning for the future? Whether it be school, your career, your family, or for yourself, make a goal you can stick to! Here are some of the best resolutions that might actually last all year round.

Learn Something New: Whether it be a fact-a-day or a new skill, learning something new is an admirable task. There are plenty of online courses or apps that allow you to take a course for free. Learn German or take a cooking class. Don’t let your mind atrophy, keep it challenged and motivated. You may just find your next calling.

Stay Positive: Give yourself the chance for a positive outlook. The more you look on the bright side, the better you’ll feel. Your relationships will also benefit as you will spend less time finding ways to argue or disagree. People love positivity!

Donate or Volunteer at Least Once: Make this a year to give back. Make a donation to a charity that has a special meaning to you. You could also help your community by spending time at a local animal shelter or soup kitchen. Who knows, it may even become a habit!

Join a Club: If you have a hobby in which you would like to expand your interest, why not join a group or organization made up of other individuals who share the same passion? If you play an instrument, maybe you could join a band. If you enjoy reading, a book club, either in person or online, could give you a chance to discuss and learn.

Unplug: Make 2017 your year to get off the grid, even if for just a few hours. The dependency on technology can be hard to shake when it seems like our entire lives are laid out in our smartphone’s calendar or we need to binge watch that next season of The Walking Dead. A few hours spent outside or playing dress-up with your daughter gives you the break you need.

Save Your Money: When everything is telling you to “buy, buy, buy” it can be hard to resist. Try fighting the urge by taking a mental inventory of your closet or garage. Do you really need that item? Then think about all the amazing things you could do if you put that money into your savings instead.

Your goals could be personalized to your life or simply to live better. The important thing is that you are taking the time to evaluate what you could do to improve and making the time to make 2017 your best year yet!
