The Volunteer Effect: How Average Citizens Support Communities

Volunteers are more important to the community than you may think. There are many ways to get involved!

In an age where we are bombarded with the idea of buying and owning items to make us happier, it is easy to lose track of the true values that make society function and make it great.

Instead of spending the time trying to take the perfect selfie, finding a time to volunteer can make a huge difference in your community and makes a significant, positive impact.

Countless organizations and programs rely on the selfless and positive people in the community to make a difference, and most people have fun in the process.

Here are some ways you can give back while knowing you are filling a much needed role for people who truly need help.

Volunteer at an animal shelter: Playing with puppies and kittens all day? Yes please! There are millions of animals without of home who have found their way into an animal shelter. These organizations are often understaffed, and underfunded, but have a lot of heart! While the work may get a little messy, you know you are helping giving love to some animals who may have been lost, abandoned or abused.

Help out at a food bank: There are thousands of food banks across the country that solve one of the biggest problems in the world: hunger. Many families are struggling to make ends meet, and with the help of food banks, they are able to get through the tough times without worrying about when their next meal will be. By helping organize donations or delivering goods, you give many individuals the support they need to keep themselves on track!

Spend Time at an Elderly Community: One of the best things about volunteering is you are spending your time, not your money, which is much more valuable. You can host an activity, teach a craft, or just keep someone company. You can’t always solve the world’s problems as a volunteer, but you can make it a little more optimistic.

Join an after school program: Many children don’t always have the support they need at home. Joining a program that gives children a mentor, a tutor, or just keeps them out of trouble is a great way to get involved. Teaching a new generation the importance of volunteer work keeps the message going!

Volunteering is not one size fits all. There are hundreds of ways that you can give back your time and effort to make the world a better place. Find something you are passionate about, form a group, and get started!

Canstruction is formed on the idea of volunteers. Teams get together to raised canned goods for a local food bank. All structures are fun to make and also support a good cause!
