Canstruction Executive Director Helps to Open the 6th Annual Vancouver Competition
ImageCanstruction, Inc. President/Executive Director, Cheri Melillo, was thrilled to be on hand for opening festivities at the 6th Annual Vancouver Canstruction Competition hosted at Vancouver’s Cruise Ship Terminal, February 22 - 26.  Cheri arrived just in time to cheer on the 21 fearless teams as they hustled to erect their structures.  A total of 120,000 cans were incorporated into the structures that were designed around the theme “Books & Bytes.”  A 360° interactive walkthrough of the competition is available here. Winners included Jurors’ Favorite “Can Pooh Reach the Honey?” by AMEC and Structural Ingenuity winner Levelton Consultants, Inc. for “Breaching Hunger”.  Levelton used a whopping 12,800 cans in the creation of a giant Orca whale leaping out of the water.  Co-Chairs Margot Paris and Janice Podmore along with Cheryl Perpchuk, Exec. Director of the food bank, and her outstanding staff and volunteers put together a fantastic event.  At the close of the exhibition all of the food in the structures and donated by the public will be distributed by the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society to families in need.
