Canstruction® is a trademarked event of the design and construction industry produced under the auspices of the Society for Design Administration (SDA) and in affiliation with local chapters of the American Institute of Architects and other professional associations of the design and construction industry. No person or organization may produce a Canstruction® Competition or event without the express permission of Canstruction®, Inc. Our goal, in addition to providing thousands of pounds of food to hungry people, is to put a spotlight on the design and construction industry giving back to the communities they help to design and build. To that end, regardless of how the competition is organized at the local level, architects, engineers, designers or contractors must play a pivotal role, either by entering competing teams from their firms or by instructing and leading teams of students, local businesses, clubs or civic organizations. That being understood, schools, and civic organizations are encouraged to host a Canstruction® Competition in their city in conjunction with the design and construction professionals that reside there. Competitions are spaced at least 50 miles apart and each competition should strive for ten or more entries. Consult the Participating Cities database to determine if your city already holds an annual Canstruction Competition that you can participate in or if you are 50 miles from the nearest competition and can qualify to host a competition. Organizers are responsible for: · Recruiting a Host Site for the exhibition · Recruiting entries · Recruiting a jury · Publicizing the event · Arranging all the logistics · Hosting an Award Ceremony/Exhibition Opening · Making arrangements with Food Bank · Submitting all results to Canstruction, Inc. · Submitting photographic slides and digital images of the local winners to compete at the international level Charters are granted by Canstruction®, Inc. to organizations that demonstrate their ability to host a successful competition. The Charter Agreement lays the foundation for sponsoring a Canstruction® Competition in your locale. Although Canstruction, Inc. is a 501(c)3 tax exempt charitable foundation, any local competition wishing to qualify for tax exemption must organize in their State and file with the IRS for 501(c)3 tax exempt status. Organizers are sent a starter kit after the local event’s responsible parties execute the Charter Agreement and remit a $100 registration fee and $250 annual participation fee. The kit includes the official competition manual and a power point presentation entitled "Blueprint for a Canstruction® Competition." Along with the manual this presentation is a step by step guide for organizing a successful competition. Organizers also receive a DVD that familiarizes prospective entrants through the process of the competition; CD's with the official Canstruction® graphic branding templates and photos of structures; 200 color brochures; and 50 presentation folders with logo. Six award statues are shipped at the time of the actual competition at no charge except shipping. Your city’s event is posted on the www.canstruction.org website where you also have access to other Members Only tools. Each participating city chairperson becomes part of a group e-mail and is offered additional mentoring throughout the process.
